How to Decorate a Mesh Backpack

Use a mesh backpack for short overnight travel, hiking trips, school books or any number of other things. Mesh is a material that consists of flexible netting. While some backpacks are made entirely of mesh, others have pockets made of the material on the outer portions of the bag. Decorate your mesh backpack in a way to customize its look and display your personal style.

• Safety pins
• Beads

Instructions

1. Arrange a collection of buttons on the mesh area. The holes in the mesh make it easy to pin them into place. Display buttons with a specific theme such as a band. Place buttons with different sayings on them or use an eclectic selection.

2. Place safety pins throughout the mesh backpack to create a kind of grunge or gothic look. Arrange the pins in a pattern or place them sporadically throughout. Use them to hold pieces of fabric or patches into place as well. Thread the safety pins through the mesh and place small beads along the pin before shutting for a less industrial look.

3. Weave ribbons in your school colors through the mesh holes. Tie the ends in a knot to secure the ribbons into place.

4. Sew patches that represent a hobby, interest or school team onto the backpack. Use one for subtle decoration or use a collection for a more noticeable display.

5. Attach small, clip-on charms to your backpack. Thread the clip through the mesh to attach. You can also use these on your zippers.
