Test the pH level of your soil to determine if it is acidic. If the reading is below 6.0, it requires lime treatment.

Aerate the soil with a lawn tiller. Depending on the size of your lawn, a gas-powered tiller may be necessary.

Pour lime into a lawn spreader and set the distribution setting as indicated on the lime's packaging.

Push the spreader back and forth across the soil in long, adjacent lines to evenly spread the lime.
