VMS uses system-level passwords for access to the system.

The Virtual Memory System (VMS) is a computer-server operating system that runs on VAX, Alpha and Itanium families of computers. It is mainframe-oriented operating system with extensive support for graphics applications. The VMS installations are multi-user servers designed for use in real-time transaction processing. The system password is required before you reach the user password prompt for access to the system. By using the AUTHORIZE utility you can change the password on the VMS operating system.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click on the "xterm" icon on the system taskbar to open a command line window.

      Type in "SET DEFAULT SYS$SYSTEM" at the "$" prompt and press the "Enter" key.

    • 3

      Type in "RUN SYS$SYSTEM:AUTHORIZE" at the prompt and press the "Enter" key.

    • 4

      Type in "MODIFY SYSTEM/PASSWORD=[newpassword]" and press the "Enter" key to define a new password.

      Type in "EXIT" to change your password on the VMS system.
