How to Uninstall Win XP Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft's free Security Essentials program includes antivirus software designed to protect your computer from malicious programs. You do not have to use this program if you prefer another security program. If you do have Security Essentials installed and you do not want to use it, you should uninstall it to avoid conflicts with other security programs. It should uninstall like any other program. If not, you can uninstall it manually.

      Double-click "Add or Remove Programs."

      Highlight "Microsoft Security Essentials" in the list of programs on your computer.

      Click "Remove." Click "Yes" when prompted to confirm. Microsoft Security Essentials should uninstall. If it does not, close the Control Panel and proceed to the next step.

      Type "appwiz.cpl" and click "OK."
