How to End a Rope Necklace
Metal and beaded rope necklaces have long been fashionable accessories, but necklaces made from real ropes are becoming more popular. To end a rope necklace made from real rope, use techniques similar to those for ending beaded, metal and fabric cord necklaces. Jewelry findings such as end caps and necklace clasps are available in most craft stores and specialty bead suppliers.

- Masking or duct tape
- 2 large end caps with bails
- Viscous jeweler's glue
- Jump rings
- Flat-nose jewelry pliers
- Necklace clasp
- 2 spring coil ends

Ending with End Caps

Tape each end of a rope necklace made from real rope with a small strip of masking tape or duct tape. If the necklace design ends with two strands of rope, tape the two strands together at each end of the necklace.

Coat the taped ends with viscous jeweler's glue. Insert each taped end into a jewelry end cap with a bail attached. Allow to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. End caps are available in a wide variety of sizes and an assortment of metals. Select end caps to fit over the rope.

Separate two jump rings using flat-nose pliers. Grip the metal ring on one side of the split with the pliers while holding the ring at the opposite side of the split with your fingers. Push the pliers forward while pulling your hand toward you to separate the ring. Never pull the sides of the ring in opposite directions.

Slide one open jump ring over the bail attached to each end cap. Slide one section of a necklace clasp of your choice over each open ring. Close the rings.
Ending with Spring Coil Ends

Cover the end of a rope necklace with viscous jeweler's glue. If the rope necklace is made from multiple strands, tape the ends together prior to applying the glue.

Insert each end of the rope necklace inside a spring coil end. Press the tip of the coil into the rope with flat-nosed pliers. Allow the glue to dry.

Open two jump rings. Connect one ring to each metal loop at the end of the spring coil. Connect one section of necklace clasp to each open ring. Close the rings.
