How to Set Up a Zip Line
Zip lines are an inexpensive way to get the kids outside for some backyard adventure and exercise. Setting up a zip line does not require a lot of space or height, and you can incorporate an already existing platform in your yard, such as a deck or swing set. Ready-to-install zip line kits are available with everything you need, or you may purchase all necessary materials at your local home improvement store. Drop the elevation of the zip line for a faster run, or place a little sag in the cable to keep the speed slow.

1
Select the area where you want to set up your zip line and measure the distance. Cut your piece of rope the distance length plus a few additional feet to ensure you have enough rope for tying knots.
-
2
Use a lighter to melt the ends of the rope to prevent unraveling.
-
-
3
Cut another piece of rope and tie the water ski handle to the pulley. Use a connector, such as a carabineer , if necessary, to join the rope and handle together.
-
4
Slide the rope through the pulley. Tie the rope tightly at each end of your zip line run, keeping the rope taunt.
-
5
Cut another piece of rope. Tie one end to the water ski handle to use when pulling the handle back to the beginning of the zip line run. Use the lighter to melt the opposite end to prevent unraveling.
