How to Treat Pimples on Your Chest

The same medications which are used on facial acne can be used on the chest.

Pimples on the chest are easier to hide than facial acne, however for the afflicted person, they can be very annoying. Sweat can cause chest pores to become clogged, resulting in breakouts. Different people respond to different treatments and you may be need to try a combination of remedies in order to clear up your personal skin problem.

Things You'll Need

• Gentle facial soap
• Benzoyl peroxide

Instructions

1. Cleanse your skin with warm water and a gentle soap which is free of excess fragrance, color, and additives. Look for descriptions like "oil-free" and "non-comedogenic" on the labels. Gentleness is the key for cleaning the skin on your chest. It can be tempting to want to scrub and scour the skin in order to clear up pimples, but resist this urge and steer away from cleaners that include scrubbing agents. Wash the affected area once in the morning and once in the evening using only your hands to spread the soap on your chest. Any more than this can cause excessive drying and irritation. Gently pat your skin dry after each washing.

2. Use an over the counter acne medication which contains benzoyl peroxide. These medications can come in gel, cream, lotion, or medicated pad form. Benzoyl peroxide can cause excessive drying or even blistering of the skin unless used properly, so be sure to follow all package directions exactly. Slight itching is a natural side effect as the skin on your chest adjusts to the medication.

3. Seek the assistance of a dermatologist if over the counter methods are not effective. There are pharmaceutical grade medications and oral antibiotics that are of a higher strength and can only be acquired through prescription.
