How to Cook Barbeque Shrimp
Shrimp are high in omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins, and are a healthy addition to your diet when eaten in moderation. There are several methods of preparing shrimp; try barbequing them for a crispy, flavorful meal. To cook barbeque shrimp, you need basic ingredients to marinate the meat, infusing it with a mild spice. You will need approximately 45 minutes from when you marinate the shrimp to when you serve the barbequed shrimp. A basic recipe yields 10 servings. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 3 tbsp. minced garlic
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
- Large bowl
- Spoon
- 1 tbsp. dried basil
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 2 lbs. fresh, peeled shrimp
- Plastic wrap
- Skewers

Combine 3 tbsp. minced garlic, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup tomato sauce and 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar in a large bowl. Stir with a spoon to blend. Add 1 tbsp. dried basil, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper to the seasoning mixture and stir.

Add 2 lbs. fresh, peeled shrimp to the bowl. Stir to coat all shrimp evenly. Cover with a sheet of plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat a grill to medium heat. Remove the shrimp from the marinade and thread onto the skewers. Poke the skewer near the tail, and then through the thickest point of the shrimp to secure. Use as many skewers as necessary. Discard the marinade.

Cook the shrimp for three minutes per side on the preheated grill. When done, the shrimp will be an opaque pink color. Cool for five minutes before serving.

Tips & Warnings
If you are barbequing on an open fire, place a cooking grate 2 inches above the flames.
