How to Make a Toga Dress
Toga parties were made famous by the classic college film "Animal House." Now the toga party has become a staple of college party life. Whether you are attending one of these raging Greek parties or simply trying to make a fashion statement with a basic costume, it is possible to sew your very own toga dress. 1
Select the right fabric. If you want a fashionable toga dress, you need more than just bed sheets to make it look right. Visit the fabric section of your local craft and hobby store. Choose the color you prefer in a medium weight cotton fabric. Purchase a length that is a little more than three times your height.

2
Cut the fabric to be exactly three times your height and preferably six feet wide. For example, if you are five feet tall, your toga fabric should be 15 feet long. Wash the fabric before beginning the project.

3
Mark the middle of the fabric's length with tailor's chalk. Using the chalk, draw a semi-circle across the length of the fabric. Start on one corner and curve up to the mid-point of the opposite side. Then curve back down to the opposite corner. Cut the semi-circle out of the fabric. The fabric should look like a semi-circle.

4
Hem the raw edges of the fabric. Measure 1/2 inch from the edge of the fabric all the way around it. Fold the edge of the fabric up to your mark and pin all the way around. Using a sewing machine, sew the hem you have created. Iron the edges to make the hem lie flat.

5
Drape the toga around your body. Place one end of the toga on your left shoulder. The rest of the fabric should fall in front of you. Wrap the excess fabric around your back and under your right arm. Sling the fabric under your right arm over your left shoulder. Arrange the folds to drape neatly and comfortably around you.

6
Accessorize your toga. Add a belt to keep the toga in place. Don a pair of earrings, a bracelet, and a pair of sandals to complete your look. Prior to wrapping the toga around your body, you may want to put on a tunic, T-shirt or tank top underneath for modesty.
