How to Write a Good Welcome Speech for an Education Conference

Welcoming speeches can introduce topics or speakers.

Your welcome speech will introduce the rest of your conference, so it is important that the speech makes your guests feel welcome and introduces the topics you will be discussing during the conference. You will also usually introduce the keynote speaker, and it is important to give the speaker a good introduction. Speeches should be written like stories in which the action or information builds to a climax, at which time you introduce the keynote speaker or the rest of the conference.

1. Avoid cliches and use a tone and style appropriate for an education conference. Plan to speak for about two minutes.

2. Practice in front of a mirror a few times before you actually get up to give the speech. Make sure you speak clearly and pronounce names correctly.

3. Check with the person you are introducing to see what information you should give during your speech, or look at the roster of classes to be held at the conference. Give small tidbits of information about your speaker or classes rather than a long list of accomplishments or details about classes.

4. Talk mostly about what your speaker has accomplished in the world of education. Give just enough details to help your audience become interested in your speaker.
