How to Insert Clip Art With Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign allows you to insert, or place, many different types of graphic files, including clip art. You can insert native Photoshop, or .psd, or Illustrator, or .ai, files or files saved as .jpg, .tif, .eps, .pdf, .dsc, .bmp, .jpg or .gif. It's important to choose the graphic format that matches how you plan to use the file. For example, documents that will be printed should use high-quality graphics and formats such as .eps, .tif and .pdf. If you use .bmp or .gif files, the document will work best for Web or online viewing only.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the InDesign file in which you like to place clip art. Select "Place" from the "File" menu.

    • 2

Locate the saved image on your computer or CD.

    • 3

      Click "Open."

    • 4

Click the icon with a paintbrush where you would like to place the image. If you click on an existing image box, the clip art will be placed in that box. If you click on a blank part of the page, a new box will appear with the clip art in it.
