How to Add an IP Block uTorrent DAT File

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. It allows users to download files by connecting to many people who have the file and receive multiple sections of the file simultaneously from different users. A free BitTorrent client program, uTorrent allows you to share and download files using the BitTorrent protocol. When using uTorrent, you may want to block certain Internet Protocol, or IP, addresses from sharing files with you. To do that, you need to enable the feature and create an "ipfilter.dat" file containing the list of IP addresses to exclude.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch uTorrent. Click "Start," then "All Programs" and then "uTorrent."

    • 2

Click "Options" from the main menu and select "Preferences." In the Preferences window, choose "Advanced." Click the option "ipfilter.enable," click the "True" radio button, and click "OK" to enable the "ipfilter" feature.

    • 3

Click "Start," and then "My Documents" to launch the Windows explorer. Click in the address bar of Windows Explorer, and type "%appdata%\utorrent." Right-click on the "ipfilter.dat" file, click "Open with...." and choose "Notepad."

    • 4

Enter the IP addresses you want to exclude, one per line. For example, type:

      172.16.84.0

      10.16.2.78

    • 5

Enter a range of IP addresses separated by a dash to exclude the full range. For example, type:

      192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254

      10.16.1.1 - 10.16.1.89

    • 6

Click "File," then "Exit." Click "Yes" to save the file in the Notepad. Restart uTorrent by exiting the program and launching it again to use the new "ipfilter" file you created.
