How to Remove a Float Switch From a Kenmore Dishwasher

If your Kenmore dishwasher will not fill properly, the problem is a faulty float switch. The float switch in a Kenmore dishwasher ensures that the dishwasher will not overfill. As the water fills the dishwasher, the float rises and operates the switch. If the float switch is dysfunctional, it could be preventing the dishwasher from filling at all. To replace the float switch, the old one must first be removed. Removing the float switch in a Kenmore dishwasher is completed in about ten minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Needle-nosed pliers
  • Shut off the circuit breaker that supplies electricity to the dishwasher.

  • Remove the screws that secure the kick panel to the bottom of the dishwasher. Set aside the kick panel.

  • Locate the float switch which is directly under the float. Use a flashlight to illuminate underneath the dishwasher to help you find the switch.

  • Pull off the two wires connected to the float switch using a pair of needle-nosed pliers. The wires are attached with clips that pull off the terminals of the switch.

  • Unscrew the two screws that secure the float switch to the bracket attached to the frame of the dishwasher. Remove the float switch from underneath the dishwasher.
