Whole wheat bread is very nutritious, and is readily available from any grocery store or supermarket. However, store-bought whole wheat bread often contains preservatives that will keep the bread fresh, but are not so great to eat. One alternative is to make your own whole wheat bread by hand with the basic ingredients. This will also allow you to enjoy the smell of freshly baked bread right out of the oven. Things You'll Need

  • Whole wheat flour
  • White flour
  • 2 bowls
  • Salt
  • Yeast
  • Sugar
  • Bread pan
  • Butter
  • Dish towel

Instructions

      Combine 2 tbsp. sugar, 1 packet active dry yeast, and 2 cups warm water in a bowl. Mix with a spoon, and allow the mixture to sit undisturbed for 20 minutes.

      Combine 2 cups whole wheat flour and 2 cups white flour in a bowl. Add 1 tsp. salt, and mix well with a spoon.

      Pour the yeast water into the dry mixture, and stir well with a spoon. Dust a clean, flat surface with flour, and turn the dough out onto the surface.

      Knead the dough for 10 minutes, then place it into a large greased bowl. Turn the dough once, and cover it with a dish towel. Place the bowl in a warm location, and allow it to remain undisturbed for 1 hour. The dough will expand to fill the bowl.

      Push down in the middle of the expanded dough with your fist, and shape it into a loaf with your hands. Place the loaf into a greased bread pan.

      Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden on top. Allow the bread to cool completely before taking the bread out of the bread pan.
