1
Buy professional hair products from a beauty supply outlet, as they will give the best results with the least amount of damage -- and they can be less expensive than the boxed products in pharmacies and department stores. You will need to buy violet or blue bleaching powder, 30 volume developer, white hair toner and 10 or 20 volume developer.
-
2
Mix together the bleaching powder and the 30 volume developing cream, according to the directions, until it reaches a creamy consistency.
-
-
3
Put on a pair of gloves and apply the bleach to the ends of your hair first with the applicator brush or your gloved hands. Ensure all of your hair is coated.
-
4
Apply the remaining bleach to your roots, avoiding contact with your scalp.
-
5
Leave the mixture in your hair for 30 to 90 minutes, or until your hair reaches a pale yellow color. You may need to rinse a bit out of a small section of hair after 30 minutes to see if it is light enough or if it needs to be left on longer.
-
6
Rinse the bleach from your hair completely and then shampoo it to neutralize the effects of the mixture.
-
7
Blow dry or air dry your hair so that it is completely dried.
-
8
Combine the toner with the 10 or 20 volume developer, according to the directions on the box. The combination should be either blue or violet in color in order to remove the remaining yellow tones from your hair.
-
9
Apply the toning mixture to your hair, starting at the roots and working your way to the tips.
-
10
Leave the toner in your hair for a maximum of 30 minutes. Monitor it carefully while toning to avoid coloring your hair blue.
-
11
Rinse your hair fully as soon as it appears white, then shampoo and deep condition to repair any damage to the hair.
-
12
Dry your hair and style as usual.
