How to Stop Telephone Telemarketers

Stop telemarketers from calling you.

Telemarketers are relentless. The phone rings at dinner time and you answer it only to be greeted by a salesman trying to get you to buy whatever it is he is selling. The calls come at the most inopportune times. When you say you are not interested or you hang up the phone without saying a word, a different salesman selling the same thing calls you the next day. Stop these annoying phone calls by registering your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the National Do Not Call Registry's home page and click on "Register." Enter your phone number on the next page. Enter up to three phone numbers on the registry.

    • 2

Enter your email address. This is necessary for them to send you a confirmation e-mail. Your registration will not be valid until you receive the confirmation and validate your registration. Submit your request.

    • 3

Click on the link in the email the Registry sent to you. This link is only valid for 72 hours. If you continue to receive calls from telemarketers after 31 days, file a complaint with the Registry from the same website you registered your phone number.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Registry does not guarantee that all calls will stop; you may still receive calls from charities and political organizations.
