How to Create a Theatrical Resume

How to Create a Theatrical Resume thumbnail
Actors need a resume to showcase their skills.

If you are an actor, it's important to be able to show casting directors that you have acting experience and skills. A theatrical resume includes information about your professional training as an actor, as well as roles you have played, so that casting directors can figure out if you might be fit for a part before inviting you in to audition. You should include roles from television, film, commercials and theater in your resume.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the format for your resume by typing your name at the top in a large font, such as 14-point font. Use a font that can be easily read, such as Times New Roman or Calibri. Set the margins to 1 inch all the way around the page and skip spaces between each section of the resume to make it easier for casting directors to skim through.

    • 2

Type in your personal information underneath your name using 10- to 12-point font. On one side, add your weight, height, hair color, eye color and any other distinguishing physical characteristics that make you stand out as a performer. On the other side, type your contact information, including your home address, telephone number and email. If you have representation, include that contact information instead of your personal information. Use tabs to space out the information evenly on each half of the page; Type your information on the left side of the page and press the "Tab" button to move the cursor to the right side of the page and type your information for that side of the page.

Add a heading for theater parts and include the names of each play, the parts you played and the production companies that put on each play.

    • 4

Create a separate heading for any television and film roles you have had. List the names of each show of film, your parts and the production companies that developed each show or film.

    • 5

Create a section with a heading for any commercial parts you have had, and include the products the commercials were advertising, the parts you played and the production companies that developed each commercial.

    • 6

Add another heading for professional training on your resume that includes where you studied, the year you graduated and any commendations your received from the institution.

    • 7

Create a special skills heading and list any special skills you have that might be useful as a performer, such as ballet training, singing, martial arts experience or musical skills.

    • 8

Attach your headshot to the back of your resume with one staple in the upper left-hand corner. You can also print your resume on the back of your headshot. Your resume and headshot should be printed on the same size paper.
