A window valance can be made to any length.

Valances are a type of window treatment that hang only along the top portion of the window. It is a simple kind of curtain that can change the entire look of the room in a matter of minutes. As with all curtains, the window must be measured correctly to properly size the valance. Does this Spark an idea?

      Place a measuring tape on the left side of the window frame. Pull it across to the opposite side.

      Measure the distance between the rod and the wall, which is also referred to as the return. Place the tape measure on the wall and pull it out to where the rod begins. Round the measurement up 1/2 inch.

      Double the return to include both sides of the valance. Add the width measurement to the return measurement and double the number if the valance will have a gather.

      Place the measuring tape at the top of where the valance will be mounted. Pull the tape measure down to the bottom of the window. Divide this length measurement by five to get the correct length for the valance.
