Sterilizing your razor can help prevent razor burn.

As often as safety razors are used, they can not only get worn down, but end up swarming with germs and other bacteria very quickly. Using a non-sterilized blade can cause a very painful shaving experience and lead to to skin problems such as razor burn or possibly even septicemia, also known as blood poisoning. You can easily avoid these problems, however, by cleaning and sterilizing your razor in between uses. This method can be used on all types manual razors, giving you a smooth, safe shave. Things You'll Need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Barbicide
  • Old toothbrush
  • Cup
  • Dish soap
  • Hair dryer

Instructions

    • 1

      Fill your cup with warm tap water and add a few drops of dish soap to the water.

      Open your razor if you have a model that opens. Dip your toothbrush into the soapy water and use it to scrub the inside of the blade to get rid of any soap scum or foam residue.

      Pour out the soapy water from your cup and add a few inches of either rubbing alcohol or Barbicide, both will sterilize your razor and remove rust. Dip the blade into the cup and leave it there for 30 minutes.

      Dry your razor by using a blow dryer. You will now have a sterilized blade.
