How to Test Comcast Broadband Speed

Comcast offers a variety of cable Internet packages that vary in speeds. Using a free, online Internet speed test, you can get an idea of how fast your Comcast broadband connection is. Internet speed tests determine your connection speed by downloading a small file to your computer and uploading it again. Because there are many factors that determine the quality of your broadband connection, the results of the Internet speed test should only be used to give you an idea of how fast your connection is.

Instructions

1. Open the Internet speed test website in a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome. There are many sites that provide speed tests.

2. Close any programs that use the Internet connection. This includes multi-player games, instant messenger and anti-virus programs.

3. Click the "Start/Begin Test" button. Some speed tests require you to select a server. If so, select a server in the city closest to you.

4. Wait for the test results. Your download and upload speeds will be displayed in the speedometer.
