How to Host a Windows 2003 VPS

Hosting a Windows 2003 VPS (virtual private server) is a way to create multiple Windows servers on a single physical machine. A "virtual" server shares the resources of the host server; so memory, hard disk space and network cards are spread across both virtual and physical machines. Hosting a virtual server can be accomplished by an IT administrator with the right skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to the Windows Server computer using an account with administrative rights.

    • 2

Click "Start," "All Programs," "Microsoft Virtual Server." Click "Virtual Server Administration Website" to open the application that lets you configure a VPS.

    • 3

Click "Create," which is found under the "Virtual Machines" heading.

    • 4

Input the virtual server settings. Type in the "Name," the "Size" of the hard disk, then the amount of system "Memory" the VPS should use.

    • 5

Click "Create." This creates the VPS and hosts it on the Windows Server machine.
