How to Cancel a Contract With the US Career Institute
If you have recently signed up to take a distance leaning course from the U.S. Career Institute, you can cancel your contract with little difficulty. The U.S. Career Institute offers distance courses in such areas of study as business, health care and general coursework. Since USCI offers self-paced classes, you may find yourself needing to withdraw from school before your finish. You can cancel your contract and even receive a refund of some -- if not all -- of your tuition. While you can inform USCI of your intent to cancel your classes by phone or email, sending a certified letter can provide better documentation if any issues arise.

1
Write a letter to USCI informing them of your decision to cancel your contract. Include your address and identification number in the letter. Since USCI does not require a reason for you to cancel the contract, you do not have to include one in your letter.
-
2
Sign your letter with your legal name. This should be the name you used to register for classes, but if it is different include your registration name. Make a copy of the letter to retain for your records.

-
3
Insert the letter into an envelope addressed to USCI corporate headquarters. You will find the mailing address in your information packet from the school and on your copy of the contract or use this address:
U.S. Career Institute
2001 Lowe Street
Fort Collins, Colorado
80525

Take the letter to the post office and mail it as certified mail, returned receipt requested. While this extra service will cost an additional $2.80 to mail the letter, it will provide you with evidence that you sent the letter and let you know when USCI receives it.

Wait for confirmation from USCI that they received your letter of cancellation. USCI will refund tuition based on your amount of completed coursework and you will receive your refund within 30 days after they receive your cancellation letter. If you cancel within the first week, you will receive a full refund less any shipping charges if you have not sent in any assignments. If you send one assignment, USCI can keep up to $150 of your tuition. If you send more than one assignment, USCI prorates your refund. If you complete 10 percent or less of the assignments, USCI will keep 10 percent of your tuition. If you complete more than 10 percent, USCI calculates what you owe in 25 percent increments. Sending in up to 25 percent of your coursework entitles USCI to 25 percent of your tuition; up to 50 percent entitles USCI to half of your tuition. If you complete between 50 percent and 75 percent, USCI will keep 75 percent of your tuition. If you complete more than 75 percent of your coursework, USCI will keep all of your tuition.
