How to Make a Neck Gaiter
A neck gaiter is a fabric tube that keeps your neck warm on a cold day. When chilly winds blow, you can pull up the gaiter to warm your chin, mouth and nose. Gaiters fold up small enough to tuck into a coat pocket when not in use. Thick fleece fabric makes a warm, comfortable neck gaiter you can sew quickly at home. A homemade gaiter also makes a thoughtful gift.

1
Determine the stretchy direction of the polar fleece. Hold the fleece on either side and tug. Do the same on other side. One direction will stretch more than the other. The long side of your gaiter will run in this direction.
-
2
Cut the fleece to measure 13 in. by 20 in. The 20 inches should follow the stretchy direction of the fabric.

3
Fold the fabric so that the short edges meet and the right sides of the fabric are together. Sew the short edges together with a ½ inch seam.
-
4
Fold over ½ inch on both long edges of the gaiter. Stitch down to finish each long edge with a hem.
-
5
Turn the gaiter right-side out and slip it over your head.
