How to Return Used Goods
Whether you received a gift you did not like after trying it out or bought a dress that wasn't as flattering as you thought, you may sometimes find yourself wanting to return something that has been used. While it is not ethical to return something you've gotten full use out of, if you are dissatisfied with a product or it is defective in any way, you can return it with a clear conscience. Follow these procedures and you should be able to return almost anything.

1
Save your receipt. Most receipts have the store's return policy printed on it, including the time allowed to return the item and when they will return for cash or store credit.
-
2
If you receive an item as a gift, be sure to ask for a gift receipt.
-
-
3
Take the item and receipt back to the store. If a salesclerk is unable to help you, ask to speak to a manager.
-
4
Have a copy of the store's return policy on hand. It is easier to return a used item if you are within the parameters of the store's policy.
-
5
If the item is defective in some way, show the defect to the store manager. If the item is outside the time limit for returns but defective, you may need to write a letter documenting the defect to the company's corporate offices to receive a refund or store credit.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have the original receipt, some retailers can look up the receipt using the debit or credit card used to make the purchase.
