How Can I Take a Screen Shot When I'm Running Windows on a Mac?

Apple's Boot Camp utility allows Mac users to run the Windows operating system on a Mac computer. While Windows and Mac keyboards are fairly similar, some key differences make performing some functions on a Mac computer that is running Windows slightly different than performing the same functions on a Windows computer. One such function is the "Print Screen" function found on Windows keyboards, a function that is mapped to one of two different keys, depending on the Mac keyboard being used.

  • Locate the function row of the keyboard and determine the number of function keys on the Mac keyboard. MacBook keyboards and Apple Wireless keyboards only have 12 function keys, while other Mac keyboards have 16.

  • Press and hold "Fn" and "Shift" keys and press the "F11" key on a 12-function keyboard to take the screen shot.

  • Press the "F14" key on a 16-function keyboard to take the screen shot.
