How to Find Out if I Am Online in Windows Live

Go to the Windows Notification Area, also known as the "System Tray," and click the upward arrow to view all currently active programs.

Place your mouse cursor over the Windows Live icon, shown as a blue figure with the shape of a person.

Read the subsequent pop-up message, which discloses whether your Windows Live session is online. More specifically, it will display whether your user account is "Available," "Away, "Busy" or "Appear Offline." The "Appear Offline" option is used to hide your online availability from others even if your account is currently signed in.
