How to Clear the Recently Opened Document List in Acrobat Reader

Acrobat Reader X stores a list of the most recently opened PDF documents to enable faster opening of the same document again. The next time you want to open a recently opened document, you simply have to click it in the recent files list on the File menu. Acrobat Reader stores this list in the system registry and the entries will have to be deleted from there to clear the list.

  • Click "Start," type "regedit" in the Search box and then press "Enter."

  • Double-click "Computer" on the left side of the Registry Editor window to expand it.

  • Double-click "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder to expand it. Similarly, one-by-one click the following folders one after the other to expand it -- Software, Adobe, Acrobat Reader, 10.0 and AVGeneral.

  • Right-click the "cRecentFiles" folder below AVGeneral and then click "Delete."

  • Click "Yes" to confirm the folder deletion on the dialog box that opens.
