      Fill the lower portion of the steaming pot, or fill a saucepan with an inch or two of water. Place over medium-high heat.

      Place the insert or the steaming basket onto the pot. Place the vegetables inside. Spread them around with a spoon so they are in an even layer.

      Bring the water to boil. Add more water if it gets too low (less than 1/4 full). The steam from the water will heat and cook the vegetables. Once the vegetables reach the tenderness you want, turn off the heat and remove the vegetables from the steam. Serve hot.
