How to Dress Like a Girl Pirate

A girl pirate costume requires several key elements.

Dressing like a female pirate has become quite a popular trend among women of all ages. Whether it is for a costume party, Halloween or other function, the folklore of pirates is both intriguing and sexy. While there are various ways to look like a true pirate, the traditional dress dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries, which form the basis of the pirate look that we see in modern society.

Instructions

1. Research the history of how both male and female pirates dressed. Female pirates quite often dressed as men in order to join a crew.

2. Start by finding the right boots. Wear pirate boots with a belt buckle, as a buckle was a sign of wealth in those times.

3. Don a pair of leather breeches that end right at or above the knee. Add a wide belt with a cutlass and colored stockings.

4. Put on a corset, which gives the hourglass shape to the body. Find a gothic-style frock coat that is longer in the back than the front and goes well with the corset.

5. Add the most important piece of any female pirate costume: the tricorn. Don the three-sided hat that many pirates favored in that time period or you can wear a bandanna with an eye patch.
