Instructions

    • 1

Write a list of chores that must be done around your home. Include daily chores as well as tasks that only need to be done weekly, monthly or according to the season.

    • 2

Discuss how much responsibility each person should receive in terms of completing chores. For example, younger children will not be capable of completing some of the same chores that older children can handle. If one spouse works outside the home, that person may have fewer household chores to do than the spouse who does not work outside the home.

    • 3

Ask each person to choose one chore that he will be responsible for on a daily basis as well as another chore he will be responsible for on a weekly basis for one month. Write down the chore that each person chooses. Giving everyone a choice can help to reduce conflict.

    • 4

Continue taking turns choosing chores until you have assigned all of the chores. Keep track of the order in which you chose.

    • 5

Write down a column for each person on a dry erase board that you can post in a visible area in the home. List each person's chores in her column.

    • 6

Conduct an end of the month meeting to evaluate how successful each person was at handling his chores. Choose chores for the next month. This time, let someone else go first who did not get to choose first at the last monthly meeting.
