If you are a college student, there is a good chance you have heard of Higher One. Higher One is a bank, established in 2000 with a primary focus of working with colleges and universities in processing financial aide refunds. This bank services 675 colleges and universities and 4.8 million students across the United States. If you are expecting a financial aid refund, your school may have your refund deposited into a Higher One account.
Activate your debit card. When you receive your debit card, there should be instructions on activating the card. To activate, you will need the card number, the security code from the back and your Social Security number. If you have problems activating your card, visit the Higher One Bank website or call 1-866-309-7454.
Use an ATM. Set up a PIN number to get immediate access to your money. You can use any Higher One ATM for free. If you do not have a Higher One ATM location near you, you can use any other bank ATM machine but there is usually a charge for access to your money.
Swipe and sign purchase receipts. Make purchases in-store or online with your Higher One bank card. By choosing credit, you can avoid being charged any fees. Credit based transactions will qualify you for One Rewards, a reward program in which you can accumulate points and redeem them for prizes.
