Tap the head of the baton firmly on the ground a couple of times to release the friction lock inside the baton.

Turn the baton over so you are holding it with the head pointing down and the handle lined up vertically to the ground.

Strike the head of the baton straight on the ground firmly to collapse the expandable shafts inside the baton handle.
