How to Use a Cordless Impact Wrench

How to Use a Cordless Impact Wrench thumbnail
A cordless impact wrench can be very handy at a construction site that lacks electrical power sources.

Most impact wrenches use an air compressor to deliver power to the tool, for maximum power and consistency. Sometimes, though, you need to use an impact wrench in a place where you do not have electrical power easily available or that is too compact to fit an air compressor into place. Those are times when a cordless impact wrench can be your tool of choice. The cordless impact wrench operates on a rechargeable battery pack. It has no wires or air hoses to get tangled and usually fits into tighter spaces than a traditional air-powered impact wrench can. Does this Spark an idea?

    • 3

Turn the wrench to the "On" position and work with it as you would any other impact wrench.

    • 4

Remove the battery pack and put it in the charger at the end of each work session.

Tips & Warnings

  • Carry an extra battery pack if you plan to use the cordless impact wrench for an extended period in a spot where there is no ready access to electricity.

  • A normal air-powered impact wrench is only live when it is plugged in and attached to an air hose. Remember that your cordless impact wrench is live as long as it has the battery pack in it, regardless of whether you have it on or off.
