How to Revive My Nephrolepis Exaltata

Boston ferns (Nephrolepsis Exaltata) make beautiful indoor hanging decorations, but do not fare as well when exposed to large amounts of sun, or when they receive insufficient humidity. Luckily, if your ferns are not doing well, and exhibiting brown leaflets and dead-looking branches, you can still revive them by removing the brown portions, dousing your plant in humidity, and moving it to a more favorable environment. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the dead-looking branches and brown leaves of your fern, with a scissors. Wash your fern with a hose, to knock off any additional brown-looking leaflets.

    • 2

Dunk the entire plant into a large bucket or trash can filled with water, until all bubbling coming from the soil ceases, indicating that the soil is saturated.

    • 3

Hang the plant indoors, in bright light but away from the sun. Alternatively, hang the plant on a shady porch.

    • 4

Water the plant every day, and fertilize monthly, either with fish emulsion or houseplant food. Mist the plant, every day, with water. It should revive quickly.
