How to Make a Block Sander
A sanding block comes in handy when sanding large flat surfaces. It is designed to distribute even pressure over a smooth surface to give you better control over the area you are sanding. Making your own sanding block, instead of buying one will save you money. It is pretty simple to make your own sanding block and you can reuse it over and over. You will need to replace the sandpaper every once in a while, just like you would if you bought a sanding block. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2-by-4 inch block
- Saw
- Double-sided carpet tape
- Nonstick cabinet liner
- Sandpaper
- Masking tape

Cut a piece of 2-by-4 to the desired size wood block needed. For small projects you will only need a length of about 6 inches.

Cut a piece of double-sided carpet tape at the same length as the block of wood. Remove one side of the paper on the carpet tape and stick it to either of the 4-inch sides of the block of wood.

Cut a piece of nonstick cabinet liner the same width and length of the block of wood. Pull the paper off the double-sided carpet tape on the block of wood. Place the nonstick cabinet liner over the carpet tape and press firmly.

Cut a piece of sandpaper the length of the block of wood. Lay the sand paper on something flat and place the block of wood in the center of the sandpaper with the cabinet liner side down.

Wrap the sandpaper around the block of wood. Tape the edges of the sand paper to the block of wood to hold the sand paper in place.

Begin sanding your project with you new sanding block and replace sandpaper as needed.
