Check the status of your green card application online.

A green card is a permanent residence card issued to non-citizens. The green card allows non-citizens to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis. Once you have applied for a green card from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service you can check the status of your application. Your application status will show you whether or not your application was received, if it is being processed, whether or not it has been approved and if additional information is required to finalize the application process.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the website of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) to check the status of your green card (uscis.gov). Locate the section labeled "After I File" on the left rail and click the link titled "Check My Case Status."

    • 2

Find the receipt number for your application. This number is located on all paperwork you have received from USCIS. The number begins with a series of three letters in the form of EAC, WAC, LIN or SRC.

    • 3

Enter the receipt number in the box provided and click "Check Status." View your application status on the results page. Your application status will show you exactly where you are in the process.
