How to Re-Dye With RIT Dyes
When fabrics such as clothing or tablecloths are used frequently, their colors can fade and become worn-looking. Instead of buying new clothes or linens, you can re-dye the fabric to make your items look like new again. One way to re-dye fabric is to use a commercially produced fabric dye, such as RIT dye, which can be mixed with water to ensure your dying project will turn out as you envisioned.

1
Fill a large stock pot three-fourths full of water. Choose a stock pot large enough to allow you to completely submerge your garments or linens.
-
2
Add 1/2 cup of liquid dye, or 2 tsp. of powdered dye, for every gallon of water. Thoroughly stir the mixture with a spoon.
-
-
3
Add 1 cup of table salt to the water. The salt helps the dye adhere to the fabrics. Stir the solution well with a spoon.
-
4
Heat the dye bath until the water boils, then reduce the heat to medium-low so that it is simmering. Place the fabric in the dye bath and allow it to simmer for 20 minutes. Stir continually.

5
Rinse the re-dyed fabric in warm water until the water is clear, then rinse it in cold water. Wash with like colors.
