How to Use Longbows

How to Use Longbows thumbnail
Longbows have lasted through the centuries.

Hunting with a bow is a tradition that dates back hundreds of years. While modern day compound bows are available in a variety of materials designed to make the bows lighter and more efficient, some hunters still prefer the classic longbow. While longbows lack the technological advancements that modern hunting bows feature, they are simpler to understand. With practice using a longbow with proper form, you will find that longbows are still capable of being highly accurate.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand with your feet and hips turned so they are pointing down the target line.

    • 2

Grip the handle of the bow lightly in your hand. You do not need to over-squeeze as the tension will keep it in your hand.

    • 3

Hold your arm with the bow straight out before you, pointed at the target.

    • 4

Place the nock of the arrow around the string and pull straight back on the string. The tension of the string will help to secure the bow against your other hand.

    • 5

Tilt your head down so that your eyes are directly behind the arrow and you are looking down the shaft.

    • 6

Aim the arrow at your target and release.
