Instructions

    • 1

Use a long serrated knife to cut a 1/4-inch slice from one side of the watermelon. Cut off a little bit less than 1/3 of the watermelon from the opposite side. Turn the watermelon over and rest it on the flat side created by the 1/4-inch slice.

    • 2

Create a decorative edge for the watermelon boat by making a saw-tooth-like border with a small, sharp knife. Alternatively, you can make a wavy top by first drawing the wavy border onto the watermelon and cutting it out with a sharp knife.

    • 3

Use a melon baller to scoop out the fruit from within the watermelon. Place half of the watermelon fruit balls in a large bowl.

    • 4

Cut small rectangle and triangle shapes from the portion of the watermelon that was removed. Insert a wooden skewer into each shape and press the opposite end of the skewer into the bottom of the emptied watermelon to make the boat's masts.

    • 5

Cut open a cantaloupe and a honeydew melon. Use the melon baller to scoop out the fruit. Add the fruit to the large bowl.

    • 6

Wash 1 to 2 cups small strawberries and cut off the green tops. Peel and core a pineapple and cut the fruit into small squares. Wash 1 to 2 cups grapes and blueberries and mix all of these into the bowl.

    • 7

Mix together 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1 tbsp. granulated sugar. Pour the mixture over the fruit in the mixing bowl and brush a little bit onto the exposed sides of the watermelon boat masts. Pour the mixture of fruit into the watermelon boat.
