You can train your bichon to potty inside when it's raining

Going outside to pee in the rain can be awfully scary for a young bichon frise puppy. There's the noise of the water hitting the ground or pavement, the fact that the pup is getting wet, and if it's a serious storm, thunder and lightening -- which can terrify large adult dogs, not just a small puppy. If your bichon frise is too frightened to potty outside in inclement weather, train your pet to use potty pads on rainy days.

Train before the rain. Teach your bichon frise to use an indoor potty pad before the next monsoon season. Set the pad on the floor where you want your bichon to "go." The chemicals in the pad will encourage your puppy to use to potty pad appropriately. Reward your bichon for using the pad with praise and a yummy treat.

Practice, practice, practice. Continue working on outdoor potty training, but set down a potty pad two or three times a week so your bichon puppy remembers how to use one.

Clean the area thoroughly. Wipe the puppy pad floor area in between pad uses with a pet stain and odor remover. You do not want your bichon frise to think it's okay to pee there all the time. Next time it rains, set down a puppy pad, and let your pup stay indoors and pee fear-free.
