How to Replace a Septic Tank Outlet Baffle
Septic tanks anaerobically treat waste water, which creates three layers. The top layer consists of fats, greases and oils. The middle layer consists of liquid. The bottom layer is a heavy sludge. Baffles are installed on septic tanks to allow only the middle layer to leave the tank. Concrete baffles corrode due to hydrogen sulfide gases produced in the tank. Plastic baffles can be broken during septic tank pumping and maintenance. Septic system maintenance providers will inspect the baffles upon pumping of the tank. If the tank baffles are deemed broken, they must be replaced. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Remove the manhole cover over the septic tank outlet pipe.
-
2
Contract a reputable septic system maintenance company to pump out the septic tank. The contents of the tank will need to be removed for full access to the outlet baffle.

Locate the baffle that covers the outlet pipe. The baffle may be fastened to the wall of the septic tank or attached to the pipe itself. The baffles are made of plastic or concrete.
