How to Make Ornament Hooks
You don't need to relegate Rudolph to the mantel because the ornament hook broke or was misplaced. Ornament hooks are quick to make, even for the craft-challenged. Basic hooks require bending. Advanced, decorative hooks showcase homemade or artisanal ornaments, adding a personal touch to holiday gifts. Count all the hooks you're missing, then get set up to make new hooks for convenience. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 18-gauge craft wire
- Scissors
- Paintbrush, knitting needle or pen
- Needle-nose pliers
Instructions

1
Snip your craft wire into 4-inch strips, cutting one strip for each ornament hook you plan to make.
-
2
Bend the top of the hook using needle-nose pliers or by winding the hook around a round object, like a knitting needle, paintbrush or pencil. This "top" is the side that will hang off the tree, so leave enough space under the crook side to affix it to a branch.

Crimp the bottom to create an S-hook. Use the needle-nose pliers. For extra security, circle the wire around on the bottom to create two loops, an inner and outer. The ornament will rest securely on the inner loop, much like a key rests on the inner loop of a key ring.

4
Slide the bottom tail of the hook through your ornament's eye hole. Wind the ornament around until it rests on the inner loop and you can hold the ornament by the top loop, and it hangs straight down.

Finish all hooks like this, then store or hang your ornaments.

Tips & Warnings
For a little pizzazz, add beads to the center of your wire. Make the top crook, then place a bead on the straight portion, before you make the bottom loop. Then bend the wire 90 degrees so the beads cannot fall down. Once you've turned the wire 90 degrees, make the final loops for the bottom of your hook.
