Instructions

    • 1

Turn the jeans inside out and put them on the boy who the jeans are for. The jeans should still be worn with the zipper in the front but inside out to allow for pinning.

    • 2

Pinch the fabric along the outside of the left leg until you feel his leg and place a pin to mark the spot. Continue down the left side, taking in the fabric against his leg as you work downward. Repeat the same process with the left inseam. The pins will create a silhouette of his leg which you will use as a sewing guide.

    • 3

Take in the right leg like you did for the left, pinning fabric on both the outside seam and inseam. Ask your boy to bend at the knees to ensure he can still move comfortably and move the pins outward a little if more space is needed. When you are finished pinning, have him remove the jeans being careful of the pins.

    • 4

Draw a line along rows of pins, directly onto the fabric using a permanent marker. The marker lines will allow you to see where to sew once you take the pins out. Once the marker lines are very visible, remove the pins.

    • 5

Sew the jeans along the outer-seams and the inseams using a sewing machine. Cut off the excess fabric and press the seams open with an iron then turn the jean inside out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make too-short jeans into skinny jeans then wear them during the winter, tucked into boots. No one will know the hems aren't long enough.

  • Use stretchy jeans to make skinny jeans, because the stretch in the denim will allow you to get a tighter fit without limiting movement.

  • Do not make the jeans uncomfortably tight or you won't be able to wear them for long periods of time.
