How to Create a Public Shopping Wishlist

An easy-to-access online wishlist is a great tool for family and friends to use.

Psychological research indicates that gift giving leads people to assess their relationships. While a good gift may or may not affirm similarities in a relationship, a poor gift leads to questions about compatibility, which can harm a relationship. Enter the public shopping wishlist -- an easy solution for anyone who wants to compile a list of desired gift options to share with family and friends.



While individual shopping outlets may have their own wishlist features, who wants to be limited to one outlet when choosing their heart's desires? Today it is easier than ever to share a wishlist for anything you can find on the Internet with the help of a free online service such as Wishpot.

Instructions

1. Go to the Wishpot website. Click on "Sign Up" at the top right of the page to register. Registration allows you to save wishlist items and to publicly share them with whomever you desire.

2. Fill in the registration information, including name and email address. Alternatively, you can use your Facebook account to register and log in. You will need your Facebook username and password to authenticate this process. Be sure to review the site's privacy policy to ensure that you agree with the way in which your personal information will be used before you complete your registration.

3. Choose the shopping lists you wish to use to customize your Wishpot service. Choices include creating a wish list for yourself, a list of gift ideas for other people and wedding and baby registry lists, among others.

4. Continue the setup by adding a Wishpot button to your web browser. On the Wishpot website scroll to the very bottom of the page to the "How To" link area on the left. Just below this text find and click on "Tools." Click the button "Click here for instructions," found just under the "Tools for adding items to a wish list" text at the top of the page.

5. Click "Download," or "Manual steps" and follow the instructions. An "Add to Wishpot" button will appear on your bookmarks toolbar.

6. Add items to your wishlist by clicking the "Add to Wishpot" button while viewing a web page that has an item you want. A window will popup on your screen with a form for you to provide information about the desired item. Click the "Add" button at the bottom of this popup to add the item to your Wishpot wishlist.

7. To share your wishlist, log in to your Wishpot account. View the Wishpot list you want to share and choose the button on the left to share by e-card, email, Facebook, Twitter and more.
