The sheer knit fabric in pantyhose can contain soil while letting water drain out, making the hosiery ideal for growing plants for a hanging or table display, such as a living wreath or centerpiece. After you're finished displaying the plants for the holidays or a special event, you can transplant the living flowers into your garden permanently. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut one leg off of the pantyhose and fill it with potting soil. Tie a knot at the top of the hose to hold the soil in place. For a larger display, use multiple legs.

    • 2

Stuff the leg or legs into a topiary wire ring.

    • 3

Snip small holes in the hose with scissors and plant seeds or transplant small plants.

    • 4

Water the hose-filled ring and place it in a bright spot out of direct sunlight.

    • 5

Leave the hose on a horizontal surface until the plants establish roots in the soil. Once roots are established, you can hang the wreath.
