How to Do a Reverse Call

How to Do a Reverse Call thumbnail
A reverse call allows you to make a call from a pay phone for free.

A reverse call is another term for a collect call. When you place a collect call, the collect calling service charges the person you are calling for the phone call instead of you, the caller. Reverse calls are not that common as of 2011 because so many people have cell phones, but knowing how to make one can come in handy if you ever find yourself in a situation where you are without a cell phone and have no money for a pay phone.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up the pay phone and dial a reverse call service, such as 1-800-COLLECT or 1-800-CALL-ATT (see Resources).

    • 2

Listen to the menu of options and select the option for placing a collect call.

    • 3

Enter the number of the person you are calling and then say your name when you are instructed to.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you are asked to say your name, say your first and last name so the person you are calling knows who you are and accepts your call.

  • The person you are calling will have to pay for the phone call, so there is a chance he might not accept the charges.
