Updating RAM on a Gateway MT3705 is a job you can do at home.

The Gateway MT3705 is a respectable member of the tribe of notebook computers sporting speedy Intel Core Duo processors. One of the limiting features on this machine may be the random access memory, or RAM; the standard MT3705 comes equipped with two memory slots containing 512 MB each for a total of 1 GB. Any RAM expansion on the MT3705 requires the installation of 1 GB RAM chips since the maximum RAM allowed on this machine is a total of 2 GB.

      Turn the Gateway MT3705 over so the bottom is facing up. Slide the battery lock to the unlocked position. Press the battery release lever and slide the battery out toward the back of the machine.

      Unscrew the memory bay cover screw. Remove the memory bay cover.

      Press outward on the tabs on each side of the RAM until the RAM tilts upward. Remove the RAM. Repeat with the second RAM chip, which is located beneath the first. Insert a new RAM chip into the lower slot at a 30-degree angle, notched side first. Press down on the RAM until the retaining tabs lock shut. Repeat with the RAM chip on top.

      Replace the memory bay cover and tighten the screw. Replace the battery. Turn the Gateway MT3705 right side up.
