DIY Gnat Trap
Gnats are a type of flying insect that belongs to the same family as mosquitoes and flies. A type of tiny fly, gnats go by other names including midges and black flies. Gnats are found around water sources all over the world because they lay their eggs in watery, moisture-rich environments. Like mosquitoes, these insects require the blood of mammals to survive, but unlike mosquitoes, they do not bite through clothing. Things You'll Need
- 2-liter plastic bottle
- Knife
- Tape
- Orange juice, beer, sugar water, apple cider vinegar or red wine
- Liquid dish detergent

Cut the top 1/3 of a 2-liter plastic bottle to create two separate pieces. Turn the top half upside down and place it, inverted, into the bottom half of the bottle. Secure the pieces together with tape around the edges.

Place any of the following into the bottom of the bottle: sugar water, apple cider vinegar, red wine, orange juice, or other fruit juice or beer.

Add a few drops of liquid dish detergent to the attractant you have chosen. This will help drown the gnats. While gnats can easily fly into the trap, they have a difficult time escaping, thus making this an effective gnat trap.

Change the liquid in the bottom of the bottle every few days. You may need more than one trap, depending on how severe your gnat problem is.

Tips & Warnings
Gnats are attracted to rotting and damp vegetation and fruit, so throw out any rotting fruit that is sitting out and allow plants to thoroughly dry between watering to avoid breeding gnats.
Use this trap to get rid of fruit flies, fungus gnats and mosquitoes.
Vinegar is a natural deodorizer, so using vinegar in your traps will help clean the air and rid it of the smells the gnats are attracted to.
