How to Fix Up My Ugly Converse
Converse shoes complete any casual outfit, while making a fashion statement. However, Converse sneakers also become ugly after months or years of use, especially when not cared for. Fix up ugly Converse shoes with colorful rhinestones, or turn ugly Converse sneakers into a work of art with paint. Care for your Converse shoes after fixing to keep them looking their best.

- ¼ cup mild detergent
- ½ tsp. saddle soap
- Cotton cloth
- Colored shoelaces
- Ballpoint pen

1
Remove shoelaces from all Converse shoes. Wash canvas Converse sneakers in cold water in the washing machine, under the quick cycle. Wash canvas Converse sneakers with ¼ cup mild detergent to prevent colors from fading. Leave the shoes out to air dry for 24 hours.
-
2
Set ½ teaspoon of saddle or mild hand soap on a damp cotton cloth. Rub the soap onto leather Converse shoes with the damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Then wipe the shoes down with clean damp cotton cloth. Dry leather Converse shoes with a dry cotton cloth.

Place new shoelaces on your Converse shoes. Select a contrasting color for an artistic touch to Converse sneakers, such as pink shoelaces on black shoes. Place electric blue shoelaces on neon green Converse tennis shoes for a bold look.
-
4
Create a dot design on the outer left and right side of Converse shoes, or on the rubber tip of canvas Converse sneakers, with a ballpoint pen. Place the tacky glue onto each dot of the design. Then set the acrylic rhinestones over the glue dots with your fingers, to add sparkle to old Converse shoes. Leave the rhinestones to dry overnight.

5
Draw a design on the shoe with a white or black fabric pencil in place of rhinestones, and paint the illustration on the Converse tennis shoes with acrylic fabric markers. Purchase the fabric pencils from a fabric store, and acrylic fabric markers from a craft store. Leave painted Converse tennis shoes to dry overnight, or as indicated on the package.
