1
Paint the walls a clear tropical blue, as if the entire bedroom was floating on the open ocean. Feel free to experiment with the idea by adding white puffy clouds, curvy waves or ominous storm clouds to the walls. If the floor can be painted, use a deep blue to simulate the ocean or a sandy color to represent a tropical island.
-
2
Hang framed pirate-themed artwork on the room's walls. Consider posters of weathered skulls, pirate flags and looting pirate ships to decorate a barren wall.

3
Fill your bedroom chest with your own special treasures. Place a "treasure" chest in the room that functions as both storage and a decorative piece. Drape pearls along the chest's handles, and pile faux gold coins at its base to cement the pirate theme. Select a chest with a worn or battered appearance; a true pirate's chest should have a few battle scars.

Install furniture pieces that have an unfinished wooden look if you are looking for new furniture to match the room. Select shelves, entertainment centers, beds and dressers that are rough around the edges and even slightly damaged. As long as the items are still functional, the pieces will appear as if they have been for a rough ride on a pirate's ship.
-
5
Decorate the room with pirate-themed linens, such as pillowcases featuring a scary Jolly Roger. Consider using fabric patterns featuring pirate skulls, galleons and booty to cover any number of bedroom necessities, including the bedspread, sheets and curtains.
-
6
Decorate shelves, the bed and other areas of the room with pirate-, oceanic- and nautical-themed swag. Purchase unique pirate-themed items, such as pirate ship models and parrot plush toys. A combination of items will add to the overreaching pirate theme of the bedroom.
